Kent O Huff Fish Rescue Project
Saturday May 20th, 2006 marked the day of the inaugural Kent O Huff Fish Round-up event. Organizers Kent Huff and Ed Brown had help from Directors and members of the Sutter Buttes Chapter of Safari Club International, The California Dept of Fish and Game, local Wildlife Biologist, Game Wardens, and concerned outdoorsmen, women, and kids of the Yuba Sutter area.
All participants assisted in the round-up of trapped Striped Bass, Sturgeon, and numerous other fish that had been land locked after the recent area high water in the Sutter By-Pass. Organizers formed 3 teams of 10 volunteers, using Boats, ATV’s, and 100 foot nets, to drag the ponds of water located below the Tisdale Weir. The fish were forced to the shallow ends, where they would be collected and returned to the Sacramento River.
Organizer Ed Brown stated “He was extremely happy with the turn out of sportsmen, women and kids from the area that volunteered their Saturday to help with the Round-up. These fish would be left to die without these volunteers.” Ken and Ed are planning an additional Round-Up in the near future once the waters reside further. Any interested individuals can reach Ed at 749-9574 for details.
